The European Section opened in August 2007 as an additional section to GESM. The language of instruction is in English and we cater to English speaking families who wish to pursue an international education. We are presently in the process of registering as a Candidate school for the International Baccalaureate Organization Primary Years Programme. This organization was founded in 1969 by the International Schools Association in order to develop a truly independent international curriculum and philosophy for international schools.
The students follow a Programme of Inquiry made up of six consecutive units the students work on through the year. These units are based around six organizing themes, big ideas about our world and who we are. Through this framework the student becomes familiar with the organizing themes and develops a greater understanding of the world around them.
Organizing Themes
Who are we?
Where are we in time and space?
How do we express ourselves?
How does the world work?
How do we organize ourselves?
How do we share the planet?
The units of inquiry are designed to incorporate different subject areas; however each unit has a specific subject area focus. In the Kindergarten two of these are based on the themes Who We Are and How We Express Ourselves, the other units are at the discretion of the teacher.

The Programme sets out to produce an internationally minded person. The qualities we try and develop in the children and promote and model around the school to achieve this are known as the Learner Profile. We would hope to see these qualities in the kind of student we would be sending out into the world after graduating from our school. The following table taken from the IBO sets out the qualities found in the Learner Profile.
