Analysis of the Comparison Tests (Tests of Competence) at the German European School Manila – School Year 2007/2008
1. Grade Level 3
Mathematics:
The average student performance is 79 %. The number of correct answers sways between 70 % and 95 %. With that the performances of the boys and girls in mathematics are significantly better than the average performance in the state of Thuringia (60 %). Throughout the different topics (Numbers and operations, patterns and structures, space and shapes) the results are well balanced and deliver a homogeneous image of student performances.

German (Reading and Communication Comprehension) – Class 3
The school mean (69 %) lies slightly above the mean of the state of Thuringia (65 %). The number of correct student answers sway between 52 % and 89 %. The performances of boys and girls in the highlighted areas (reading and communication comprehension) are balanced.

2. Grade Level 6
Mathematics:
Overall, the students of Grade 6 scored results in mathematics that are slightly above the mean of the state of Thuringia (62 %; 58 %). All students in the “Gymnasium” section were able to reach very good to excellent results. The individual performances of girls and boys are located between 43 % and 89 %. The students were especially strong in the area of geometry and in solving mathematical problems.

German ( Reading and Communication Comprehension) – Class 6
The overall performances of girls and boys (school mean: 73 %) lies above the mean of the state of Thuringia (65 %). The individual performances sway between 49 % and 95 %. Very good to excellent results were reached by 85 % of the students. This performance level is composed of all students of the “Gymnasium” section, as well as the majority of students of the “Realschule”. The girls and boys performed especially well in writing.

English ( Reading and Listening Comprehension) – Class 6
The results in both sections are highly above the state average. This especially applies to the results in “ Reading ” (school mean: 87 %, state mean: 67 %). Here, the student performances sway between 71 % and 98 %. The difference is less developed in “Listening” (school mean: 95 %, 79 %). The number of correct student answers lies between 79 % and 100 %.
All students of the “Gymnasium” and the “Realschule” reached excellent results and belong to the leading group. Throughout both sections the results were excellent.

3. Grade Level 8
The students of class 8 were able to participate in the competence test in mathematics for the first time.
Mathematics:
The school mean (66 %) lies slightly above the mean of the state of Thuringia (60 %). The performances of the girls and boys sway between 45 % and 83 %. The majority of students of the “Gymnasium” could place themselves in the highest quartile with their performances. All other students of the “Gymnasium” and the “Realschule” reached very good results, which put them above average. The students were especially strong in the area of geometry and in solving mathematical problems.
