Maraiah Hartweg, Grade 8
![]() |
My name is Maraiah Hartweg, the current student representative, and I am 15 years old. The student representative's task is to rise awareness for the students' problems among teachers and parents. The student representative is also sometimes invited to participate in official meetings where school matters are discussed. My mother is a Filipina, and like most Filipino’s today, she also has some Spanish heritage. My father, on the other hand, is half German and half Mexican-American, which comes down to my siblings and I, who are part Filipino, part German, part Mexican-American and part Spanish. At least that is what I’ve been told. |
I am, just as most of my friends, able to speak a handful of different languages such as: German, English and Tagalog. I am also obliged to learn French, and what most people don’t know, is that I can also speak a native dialect called Cebuano quite fluently. It is most definitely an advantage being multilingual, especially in an international school.
I’ve been attending the German European School Manila for almost ten years now, and it is like my second home. I enjoy everything about my school and have made some of my best friends there. Initially, I never thought about being a school officer, but when the opportunity was on the dance floor, I did not hesitate to dance with it. It’s done me well so far, and I’m enjoying every part of it.
