Maraiah and Roxanne Hartweg

Hello everybody! We are Maraiah and Roxanne Hartweg, and we are the student representatives of the German European School Manila.

Student representatives are tasked to raise the awareness among teachers and parents on the students’ issues and concerns. There are also instances where they are invited to participate in official meetings where school matters are discussed.

This year’s plan mainly consist of designing our newly built student’s lounge and making this year’s Kulturfest a spectacular event, as the GESM has been chosen to be this year’s host. Of course success cannot be achieved single-or double-handedly, that’s why we plan to get the whole student body involved in achieving our school’s goals!

To give you more information about the two of us, here are our individual introductions:

I’m Roxanne Hartweg, 13 years old and I am in the 7th grade. My mother is a Filipina and my father is half German and half Mexican-American, which come down to my siblings and I who are part Filipino, part German and part Mexican-American.

I’ve been going to the German European School Manila for about 8 and a half years now and it’s like my second home. Over the years I have met some amazing people and have made some of my best friends here. I can’t think of a better school to be in than the German School. I never really thought of being a representative but when I was told to run, I guess I just went with it and so far I have been enjoying it.

As for me, my name is Maraiah and I am 16 years old. I’ve also been going to this school since Kindergarten, which is about 12 years now. I’m in the tenth grade, which is the final grade for the secondary level, and I’m very excited about doing the IB Diploma Programme next school year! It’ll be a marvelously overwhelming time of discovery, hard work and hopefully a great deal of achievements!

As for this year’s student council, I am very humbled and proud to have been chosen as a student representative for the third time. Also, I am quite pleased to be representing our beloved school alongside my sister Roxanne, and I am very excited to see what another great school year at GESM has in store for all of us!
