Wolfgang Kollecker - Head of School, German School Manila

Two Sections, One School
The German European School Manila (GESM) is a European international school with two parallel sections offering all grades from Kindergarten through Grade 12. The students study towards an International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma, which is at par with the German 'Abitur'. While the German Section is primarily for German-speaking students, the European Section mainly accepts English speakers.

In this way we offer an unrestricted transition to any German school and university and an unrestricted transition to any international school during or at any moment of the career at GESM.

The Programmes
The German Section starts with Kindergarten and ends with an accredited German degree after Grade 10 and the IB Diploma at the end of Grade 12. Our teachers instruct according to a standard German syllabus. The English language lessons are particularly demanding.

Since 2003, the European Section has consisted of Grades 11 and 12 of the IB Diploma Programme. Starting with the academic year 2005/2006, we have been offering an English-speaking group in Kindergarten. This will be expanded to include all Primary grades over the coming years. Our teachers come from a variety of international backgrounds and ensure that all courses are given at recognised international standards.

Education and Values
Our teaching style is founded on nurturing the student. Respect for all living things, tolerance for other religions and philosophies as well as democratic fundamentals are studied and learnt, thus becoming part of everyday life.

Our educational style is founded on developing character. We encourage our students to become independent, open-minded, self-assured and critical thinkers.

Our academic style is based on scientific fact. We give our students the skills, methods and knowledge to help them in their roles as probing thinkers to understand and solve problems.

We encourage our students to develop a life-long love of learning and a willingness to be responsible for themselves and their environment.

A friendly atmosphere, a highly motivated team of teachers and much attention paid to individual students’ needs contribute to the positive learning experience for which the German European School Manila is known.

The school campus is spacious and incorporates a high level of security. Sport facilities, laboratories and the teachers’ lounge are shared with the French School. Together with EFM we form the European International School, an island of European and international multiculturalism right in the heart of Manila.

We would be very happy to answer any specific questions you might have about our school. We invite you to come and enjoy the full experience of GESM: a centre of excellence in academics, sports, music, and community service.
