Message from the Head of School
Welcome to the German European School Manila!
We highly appreciate your interest in our school and hope that our homepage provides all the answers to your questions. For the initial orientation I recommend you to have a look at our FAQ.
For questions about our school sections and departments, you may address our section heads directly, using the contact boxes on our section pages. For particular questions regarding admission, application, and school fees, please contact our secretary, Ms Ethelwelda Cruz.
Naturally, you always get the best insight into our school during a personal visit on site, combined with a tour around the "greenest school in Manila.” In addition, your children can find out if they feel comfortable with us by visiting the German or International kindergarten or their future class.
Our concept of education and schooling forms the core of our school, as you can learn in the section "About Us" in the form of the vision and mission statements, the programme and the history of GESM. Our "Students' and Parents' Handbook" explains how our educational principles are put to practice.
This implementation and the control of a high standard of quality is, of course, my main responsibility as Head of School working closely together with all faculty and staff.
The multicultural character of our school in particular is enticing for me. Like many students and colleagues, I am intrigued by the unique possibilities offered by our two sections - the German and the international - plus the coexistence with our French partner school on the EUROCAMPUS, catering to the rich diversity of our students.
As the new principal, I am equally humbled and honoured to be tasked with the leadership of the German European School Manila.
With about thirty years of professional experience in teaching and management, my aim is to contribute to the best of my capacity and with the support of the members of the school community to the quality development of GESM.
I started my teaching career in Asia as a member of the renowned German Swiss International School (GSIS), successfully representing the concept of One School-Two Systems by combining a German/Swiss and an English stream for the ultimate mutual benefit of both streams. I think there is a message in here.
Returning to Germany for the advancement of my professional profile, I was principal of Waldparkschule Heidelberg with a student body from over 30 countries, before I was again bitten by the Asian bug, becoming a Head of Department in the German School Tokyo-Yokohama.
Last but not least - over the past eight years, I had the chance to contribute as a principal to the development of Elbinselschule in Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg. Newly founded as a public-private-partnership school, this groundbreaking new concept of a multicultural institution became a vital and vibrant part of the Bildungszentrum - Tor zur Welt and has also earned a reputation as one of the leading primary schools in Hamburg.
Despite Germany being my home country, my passion lies with Asia. So I jumped at the opportunity and applied for the principalship of GESM when it became available.
I highly appreciate the trust the board and the school community have put in my personal and professional capacities by choosing me.
In return, I will commit myself, together with the school community, to further advance the academic and educational profile of our school.
