Students pay tribute to Women & Girls in Science

by Grisela Ruiz Marti | 19 February 2021

The outbreak of COVID-19 has made clear to the world that science is needed more than ever. The world needs science and science needs women and girls- UN Women.

To recognize the ingenuity and essential role that women scientists have played in the fight against COVID-19, this year, UNESCO and UN Women celebrated the International Day of Women and Girls in Science under the title ā€œWomen Scientists at the forefront of the fight against COVID-19ā€ (11th February).

Girls and women are under-represented in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Only 35% of students in the fields of STEM are girls and only 30 per cent of researchers are women. We need to break long-standing gender bias and stereotypes, recognize the work of women in science and provide role models to young generations.

To raise awareness, recognize womenĀ“s contributions in science and celebrate the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, some of our students in the International Secondary have given voice to women scientists that have dedicated their lives to STEM- related fields. Inspiring women from all over the world, just like our young students.
