Our Story

At German European School Manila, we are a multicultural learning community that brings together students, families, and educators from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. We believe that international education fosters open-mindedness, respect, creativity, and global responsibility.

Our school environment encourages students to grow academically, socially, and personally while embracing intercultural understanding and collaboration.

Foundation of José Rizal School

The German European School Manila traces its origins to 5 August 1980, when it was founded under the name José-Rizal-Schule.

The name was proposed by Rudolf Lietz, a member of the founding board, in honour of the Philippine national hero José Rizal. Rizal’s academic experience in Germany, particularly in Heidelberg, and his appreciation of German educational traditions contributed to the connection between his legacy and the school’s educational vision.
