Primary Years Programme (PYP) & Cambridge Curriculum

At GESM, the Early Years English Section combines the inquiry-based International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) with the internationally recognised Cambridge International Curriculum. The PYP provides the framework for teaching and learning, while the Cambridge Curriculum provides the subject-specific scope and sequence, creating one integrated learning experience.

ONE CURRICULUM, TWO INTERNATIONAL FRAMEWORKS

The Early Years English Section follows the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP) as its framework for teaching and learning, while the Cambridge International Curriculum provides the subject-specific scope and sequence.

Within the Primary Years Programme units, all Cambridge scope and sequence are integrated to support the understanding of the Central Idea and Lines of Inquiry. Throughout each unit, students develop the Approaches to Learning, including Research Skills, Thinking Skills, Social Skills, Communication Skills, and Self-Management Skills.

While we value the importance of supporting knowledgeable students, we also foster good citizenship through the PYP Learner Profile.

What is the Primary Years Programme (PYP)?

The Early Years English Section adheres to the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme (PYP). The programme focuses on the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in the classroom and in the world outside.

Within the PYP Framework are a distinctive set of attributes, skills and attitudes that aim to develop active, compassionate and lifelong learners. Together with the Transdisciplinary Skills, these prepare IB students to make exceptional contributions on campus.

What is the Cambridge International Curriculum?

The Cambridge International Curriculum sets a global standard for education and is recognised by universities worldwide. It is flexible, challenging and inspiring, culturally sensitive yet international in approach.

Cambridge students develop an informed curiosity and a lasting passion for learning. They also gain the essential skills they need for success in school and in their future careers.
