Curriculum Overview

The German Primary School combines German educational traditions with an internationally minded learning environment. All class teachers are native German speakers and bring extensive experience in German primary education, ensuring that students benefit from authentic language immersion and proven pedagogical practices.

Authentic German Learning Resources

Teaching and learning materials are sourced directly from Germany, including textbooks, workbooks, readers, educational software, and classroom resources. The core subjects of German, Mathematics, and Projekt (Sachunterricht) are taught using materials published for German primary schools.

Projekt (Sachunterricht)

Projekt (Sachunterricht) is an interdisciplinary subject that combines elements of science, social studies, geography, history, and civic learning. At GESM, the topics explored in Projekt are aligned with the transdisciplinary themes of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP), allowing students to investigate real-world concepts while maintaining the strengths of the German approach to primary education.

Learning is designed to foster curiosity, critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, and increasing independence as children prepare for the transition to secondary school.

Learning German through Immersion

German is the language of instruction across subjects, allowing students to develop language skills naturally through meaningful daily learning experiences.

Children who are still acquiring German receive individualised language support from dedicated German language teachers. Depending on each child's needs, support may take place through push-in sessions, where the language teacher works alongside the student in the classroom, or pull-out sessions, where students receive one-on-one or small-group instruction outside the classroom.

This flexible approach enables students to continue progressing academically while steadily building confidence and proficiency in German.

Families who would like their children to become fluent in German are encouraged to consider this pathway. With the right support and motivation, children are often able to acquire the language naturally while participating fully in classroom life.

German School Life

Throughout the year, children celebrate traditional German festivals and participate in school events that introduce them to German culture while strengthening our close-knit school community. At the same time, daily interactions with classmates from diverse backgrounds foster international-mindedness, intercultural understanding, and respect for different perspectives.
