Experiments to Explore our Body Systems in Grade 5
"Every great idea emerges out of a process of trial-and-error experimentation." - Albert Einstein

Students were introduced to the scientific method, a repeatable process that scientists use to ask questions, test ideas, and explain their findings using evidence. Students learned that the scientific method is not simply about finding the “right answer”; rather, it is about developing the skills to think critically, test ideas, learn from results, and make improvements based on evidence.
Through this process, students began to understand the importance of curiosity, perseverance, and reflection when investigating the world around them.

Balloon Lung Experiment
Grade 5 explored their understanding of the respiratory system through a fun and engaging Balloon Lung Experiment.
Although we encountered a few challenges with our materials, students demonstrated resilience and reflected on what they could change or improve to make the experiment even more successful. It was a great opportunity for students to apply the scientific method, learn from unexpected results, and understand that sometimes things don’t go exactly as planned—and that’s all part of being a scientist!
And, of course, no matter what, everyone loves balloons!

Pumping Heart Experiment
Grade 5 had the opportunity to expand their understanding of the circulatory system by taking part in a fun and engaging Pumping Heart Experiment. Students demonstrated patience, creativity, and problem-solving skills as they made design changes and adaptations to ensure their experiments were successful.
It was wonderful to see students learning through hands-on investigation and persevering when faced with challenges. Nice work, Grade 5!
