Exploring Science Together at Eurocampus
October 9 2026
GESM Primary and Kindergarten pupils joined LFM Early Years students for a visit to the Eurocampus Science Fair, where Grade 11 students presented a variety of experiments. The fair gave the younger children an opportunity to see science in action and learn from older students beyond their usual classrooms.
Moving from station to station, the children explored microscopes, watched a Chladni plate experiment, and observed demonstrations of elephant toothpaste and a soap volcano, among many other activities. The Chladni plate experiment demonstrated how vibrations can create patterns on a surface, making sound visible in an unexpected way. Meanwhile, the elephant toothpaste and soap volcano demonstrations introduced the children to experiments with striking, easy-to-observe results. The Grade 11 students explained what was happening, helping their younger visitors connect each demonstration with the science behind it.
Seeing the experiments unfold gave the children a different way to approach unfamiliar ideas. They could observe changes as they happened and follow the explanations while the results were right in front of them. With a range of demonstrations to explore, the fair offered an introduction to several areas of science in one visit.
For the Grade 11 students, presenting their work to younger children was also an opportunity to practise explaining scientific concepts clearly. They took on the role of guides, sharing what they had learned in ways that Primary, Kindergarten and Early Years pupils could follow. The fair brought together students from GESM and LFM across different age groups, combining scientific discovery with learning from one another. For our younger pupils, it was a chance to explore new ideas alongside their Eurocampus peers and see how much there is to discover through science.
