Germany in Focus: Exploring Education and Future Opportunities
Parents often have questions about what their child is learning at GESM and where that education might lead. We created Germany in Focus to bring those conversations together in one series of events. Teachers and partners will explain the school’s programmes, introduce opportunities in Germany and give families the chance to ask questions as they plan for their child’s future.
The series begins with the School Trip to Germany Information Night on 1 October at 6:00 PM. Families can attend on campus or online to learn about the optional trip planned for spring break in April 2027. During the trip, which typically lasts ten days, students stay in dormitory accommodation, attend German language lessons in the mornings and visit cities, museums and other educational destinations in the afternoons. The session will cover the cost, how the programme is organised and what students can expect. Registration for the trip closes on 23 October 2026.
On 6 October at 6:00 PM, families are invited to the GIB and IB Information Night, also available on campus or online. The evening will introduce the GIB, or Gemischtsprachiges IB, the bilingual German and English option within the IB Diploma Programme for Grades 11 and 12. Parents of younger students are encouraged to attend too. The language skills and academic foundations that support this pathway develop over several years, and the session will explain how GESM prepares students for the GIB and IB throughout their time at school.
Families considering what comes after graduation can join the Vocational Training and Study in Germany Information Talk on 20 October at 6:00 PM on campus. Kirsten Herr and René Evering of Mariposa.edu will discuss university study and Ausbildung, a form of vocational training that combines classroom learning with workplace experience. They will address applications, qualifications, language requirements and the practical challenges students may face. The talk is especially relevant to families with students in Grades 9 to 12, who can begin exploring their options before graduation. A session for families outside GESM is scheduled for 21 October.
The GESM Welcome Barbecue is provisionally scheduled for 24 October. Although it has moved from its original date, it remains an opportunity to welcome new families and spend time together as a school community. On 29 October, a Hybrid Coffee Morning will offer a closer look at how the GIB works in practice at GESM.
