GESM Marks German Unity Day with Activities and Student Presentations

GESM marked German Unity Day on 2 October with activities across the school, giving students an opportunity to learn about the history behind Germany’s national holiday and reflect on the meaning of unity.
Celebrated annually on 3 October, German Unity Day commemorates the reunification of East and West Germany in 1990. At GESM, the occasion brought students together to explore this history through classroom activities, sports and presentations.
In Primary, students from the German and English sections joined one another for sports activities. Working together encouraged teamwork and gave children a chance to connect with peers from the other section, putting the idea of unity into practice through shared games.
Secondary students worked with their classmates to prepare presentations, which they then shared with the school. Preparing and presenting their work helped them develop their understanding of German reunification while giving them an active role in explaining its history to others.
Throughout the day, classes took part in activities that made the occasion accessible to different age groups. Through learning, discussion and time spent together, students explored both the historical significance of 3 October and how cooperation can bring a school community closer.
