On December 1, 2025, GESM celebrated the lighting of the Adventskranz (Advent wreath), marking the beginning of the Christmas season. Mr. Veith Böttcher led the primary students and preschoolers in the lobby, sharing the heartwarming story of the first Adventskranz, which was created in an orphanage in Hamburg, Germany. This tradition has since become a cherished part of Christmas celebrations for children across Germany.
At GESM, a candle will be lit each Monday leading up to Christmas Day, creating a sense of anticipation and joy within the school community.
On the second Sunday, December 8, the primary kids and kindergartners gathered in the lobby once more, but this time, they were greeted by Nikolaus himself! Arriving a bit late since his day, Nikolaustag, fell on Saturday, December 6, he joined the children in singing and lighting the candles, adding a special touch to the celebration.
The Adventskranz lighting at GESM continues to foster a spirit of togetherness and joy as the school community prepares for the holiday season.
