The 24-Hour Swimming Challenge 2026 has now come to a victorious close! This year, alongside our partner school, Lycée Français de Manille (LFM), a wave of determination swept through our Eurocampus. Students, parents, and guests came together, swimming tirelessly for an entire day and night. Many even chose to stay on campus, keeping the energy alive in the early morning hours.
This incredible effort was all part of the Eurocampus fundraising initiative. Each lap swum was tied to a pledge from sponsors, donating a set amount for every single lap completed. And the impact is profound: the funds will help support vital school construction projects, from new playgrounds to upgraded sports facilities.
What made this year’s challenge truly extraordinary was the suspense. Right up until the very last hour, it was uncertain whether we would surpass last year’s record. But in a remarkable burst of energy, we reached 8,713 laps, surpassing the previous year’s tally of 8,555 by a slim but crucial margin.
The ceremonial first swim was led by our Board Chairman, Mr. Christian von Strombeck, alongside his daughter Chrislyn from Kindergarten. Their symbolic start set the tone for a day of unity and effort. Dr. Pia Friedrich and Sophie Lahu from the German Embassy Manila also joined us early on.
We must also give a huge thank you to Mr. Florian Simmelbauer, our dedicated GESM Sports Coordinator, who stayed awake for the full 24 hours. Not only did he organize all the swimmers, but he also joined in during the quiet hours, swimming when only a few were still in the pool. His endurance and dedication kept the spirit of the event alive and ensured its success.
This event wasn’t just about numbers; it was a testament to the power of a community united by a common goal.
