On Sunday September 14th, GESM’s U-15 Boys Basketball team journeyed to British School Manila to test their mettle against some of the best teams in Manila. Squaring off against the BSM Blue Lions first, GESM started slowly falling behind by 10 points. Undeterred, our boys clawed their way back steadily before stealing a thrilling victory against the home team by a narrow margin of 37-35.
After a long delay before their next tilt in the afternoon, the boys started off sluggishly and dug themselves in a huge deficit of 19 points against deep and strong Hope School. But once again this group of hearty boys did not give up. Almost miraculously, they found a way to slowly cut their lead in the next two quarters and eventually go ahead in the final minutes. Somehow, they stood strong and kept the lead to emerge victorious by a tally of 57-54.
This was an exciting debut for the 2025-2026 season and propels them into the semi-finals and finals day on November 22nd. Importantly, solid sportsmanship and camaraderie was displayed all teams.
Competing for GESM were: Grade 6 - Santi, Grade 9 - San, Pablo, Iago, Sebastian, Deacon, Brandon, Sadi, Ryou and Grade 11 - Mateo.
With MISAA basketball opportunities as well as the next round of the BSM tournament ahead, it was an encouraging start to the school year for these young hoop dreamers!
