Students at German European School Manila recently took the initiative to introduce Model United Nations (MUN) to their peers, aiming to raise awareness of the programme and encourage more students to join in the coming school year. Model United Nations is an educational simulation in which students take on the role of delegates representing different countries. In this setting, students engage in discussions on global issues, debate possible solutions, and work collaboratively to address real-world challenges. The programme is designed to help students develop essential skills such as public speaking, research, critical thinking, negotiation, and teamwork.

As part of this initiative, the school’s MUN Club visited different classes to promote the programme for the upcoming school year. The students interviewed teachers and fellow students and shared what makes this activity such a unique and exciting experience. During the presentation, the Grade 7 students also shared their own experiences as MUN participants and explained how the programme is structured within the school. They guided their peers through what MUN involves, what students can expect, and how it contributes to both academic and personal development. Students highlighted that the club is not only about conferences and resolutions, but also about building friendships, socialising with students from other schools, staying informed about world issues, and most importantly, having fun. Through their presentations, they provided valuable insight into the opportunities available through participation in MUN and helped show how the programme supports students in becoming more confident, independent, and globally minded learners.

The initiative was created with the goal of building and strengthening the school’s MUN community by encouraging greater involvement from students across year levels. By sharing their knowledge and enthusiasm, the Grade 7 presenters helped spark interest in the programme and highlighted its relevance in developing globally engaged students who are willing to participate in international dialogue.

Beyond the content of the presentation, the experience also allowed the students themselves to further develop important skills such as confidence, communication, leadership, and teamwork. Presenting to their peers gave them the opportunity to take initiative and actively contribute to the growth of extracurricular opportunities within the school.

The school looks forward to seeing the Model United Nations programme continue to expand and inspire more students to engage with global issues, collaborate across cultures, and become active, informed participants in discussions that shape the world.
