Einschulung: A German School Tradition

On August 13, the Deutsche Europäische Schule Manila held its annual Einschulung ceremony to welcome our new Grade 1 students to primary school.

Einschulung is a German tradition that marks the beginning of a child’s formal primary school education. On this special day, children are officially welcomed into school, often accompanied by their families. One of the best-known parts of the tradition is the Schultüte, a colourful school cone filled with school supplies, small gifts and treats for the child’s first day.

As a German school abroad, Einschulung is an important part of our school culture. It allows us to continue German traditions within our international community and gives our students and families an opportunity to experience an important part of the German school system.

This year’s ceremony brought together our new Grade 1 students, their families and teachers as they began their primary school journey at DESM. We are happy to welcome our newest students to the community and wish them a great start to the school year.
