IGSCE Music Recital
Students from Grades 9 and 10 at German European School Manila (GESM) recently took part in an IGCSE Music Recital, presenting a variety of musical performances that reflected their individual interests, abilities and styles.
The recital featured a diverse selection of music, ranging from classical piano pieces and instrumental solos to contemporary pop and rock songs. Students performed works such as All I Want and The Cure by Olivia Rodrigo, alongside La Chevaleresque (Op. 100, No. 25) by Friedrich Burgmüller and a violin solo of From the Start.
The programme also included performances of Bold as Love by Jimi Hendrix, Chop Suey! by System of a Down, Goodbye Angels by Red Hot Chili Peppers and Sic by Slipknot, among many other pieces. The variety of genres gave students the opportunity to explore different musical techniques and demonstrate their skills through both vocal and instrumental performances.
As part of their IGCSE Music studies, students develop their understanding of music through performing, composing and listening to different musical traditions. The recital provided an opportunity to apply what they had learned in class while gaining experience performing in front of an audience.
Preparing for a musical performance requires practice, concentration and confidence. For the students, the recital was not only an opportunity to share their musical abilities but also to experience the challenges and enjoyment of performing live.
The event brought together different musical tastes and talents, giving the school community a chance to appreciate the work and progress of the Grade 9 and 10 music students.
