GIB Students featured in the Speak Dating Event
On 19 September, Grade 11 GIB students Adriana and Constantin took part in Speak Dating 2026 at One Ayala in Makati. As speakers at the German booth alongside the Goethe-Institut Philippinen, they introduced visitors to German words and phrases and answered questions from people curious about the language.
Speak Dating brought speakers and visitors together for short conversations about European languages and cultures. Held in celebration of the European Day of Languages, the event gave guests a chance to try a new language, hear how it sounds and learn something about the people who speak it. It was organised by Alliance Française de Manille, Goethe-Institut Philippinen, Instituto Cervantes de Manila and the Philippine Italian Association.
For Adriana and Constantin, the afternoon offered a change of perspective. They are used to learning German as students; this time, they were the ones helping others learn. Speaking with visitors at the booth gave them an opportunity to put their own language skills to use and share what they know beyond the classroom.
Their participation showed how a language learned at school can become a way to connect with people outside it. For the visitors they met, a few minutes of conversation offered a first introduction to German.
