GESM Announces Historic Logo Evolution: From Stars to Hearts

In a landmark decision that reflects the evolving spirit of international education, the German European School Manila has officially approved the adoption of a refreshed institutional logo, effective immediately as of 1 April 2026.
After decades of proudly featuring the iconic yellow stars that have long symbolized GESM’s European identity, the school will now transition to a new emblem centered around bright red hearts — a bold visual step intended to represent care, compassion, emotional literacy, and cardiovascular excellence in education.
The decision was unanimously endorsed during a specially convened strategic branding summit earlier today, attended by senior school leadership and distinguished representatives of the Board. Present at the ceremonial approval were Deputy Head of School Aleksandar Krstovic, Academic Director Julien Ferrandon, Head of Administration Volker Ross, Chairman of the Board Christian von Strombeck, and Board member Torben Bohn. Leadership roles and campus context verified from current GESM sources.
The formal blessing of the redesign was further witnessed during an official campus visit by the German Embassy Manila. In a moment described by attendees as “deeply symbolic and unusually crimson,” First Secretary for Political Affairs Dr. Pia Friedrich joined the delegation after a guided walk across the Eurocampus, where the new heart-forward identity was presented in the presence of students, faculty, and at least one slightly confused maintenance trolley.
“The stars have guided us well,” remarked Mr. Krstovic, standing before a projected mock-up in which the hearts appeared to gently pulse. “But in today’s educational landscape, it is not enough to reach for excellence. We must now feel excellence.”
Mr. Ferrandon added that the rebranding aligns with GESM’s commitment to future-ready learning. “Research increasingly shows that red shapes improve warmth, unity, and newsletter click-through rates. Hearts are therefore the natural next phase of pedagogical innovation.”

Speaking on behalf of school administration, Mr. Ross emphasized the logistical precision behind the rollout. “Every signboard, letterhead, sports jersey, report card cover, pool lane banner, and cafeteria tray liner will be updated in phases. Our goal is a seamless transition before anyone notices what day it is.”
Board Chairman Mr. von Strombeck praised the decision as visionary. “This is more than a logo change. It is a strategic emotional infrastructure initiative.”
Board member Mr. Bohn reportedly seconded the motion “with great enthusiasm and moderate astonishment.”
During her campus visit, Dr. Friedrich also expressed support for the symbolic shift. “The relationship between Germany and the Philippines has always been built on trust, dialogue, and excellent schooling. Replacing stars with hearts is a powerful diplomatic gesture toward shared humanity — and, if I may say, a highly memorable use of red.”
According to the communications office, the revised logo will begin appearing across official channels, school merchandise, and selected poolside materials throughout the day. A commemorative limited-edition “Heart of Eurocampus” collection is also said to be under consideration.
Parents and students are kindly advised that all existing uniforms, documents, and emotional attachments to the previous logo remain valid during the transition period.
GESM thanks the community for embracing this heartfelt new chapter in the school’s visual identity.
And in the true spirit of innovation, unity, and suspiciously well-timed announcements:
Happy April Fool’s Day from all of us at GESM. ❤️
