On May 19, 2026, Grade 4 students recently spent time with their kindergarten buddies in a special cross-grade tandem activity that brought learning and play together.
The activity focused on bringing older and younger students together through shared reading experiences and collaborative tasks. While tandem reading was an important part of the session, the event was also designed to go beyond books encouraging interaction through games and hands-on activities that made learning more dynamic and engaging. Through these shared activities, Grade 4 students took on a mentoring role, showing patience and responsibility as they worked with the kindergarten children. At the same time, the younger pupils enjoyed learning from their older peers, building confidence through play and interaction. The grade 4 students took on a mentoring role, supporting their younger partners by reading aloud, explaining parts of the stories and encouraging participation. In return, kindergarten students responded with excitement and openness, building confidence as they interacted with their older peers. Beyond reading skills the students developed important social and emotional skills such as teamwork, communication, patience and empathy. The experience also helped strengthen a sense of responsibility among the older students as role models within the school community.
Activities like these help build a stronger school community by encouraging meaningful connections between different year levels. They create opportunities for students to learn from one another in a supportive setting, making learning both personal and memorable.
