The students of classes 4D, 5D, and 6D spent three unforgettable days in Cabangan, Zambales, combining adventure, teamwork, and sustainability. Accompanied by three teachers, 16 students set out to explore the beautiful Philippine coastline while learning how to protect it. Upon arrival, we were welcomed by bright sunshine and Alon, the friendly dog and mascot of Alon & Araw. During our stay with the organization, the students learned through interactive games and activities why protecting our oceans and reducing waste are so important for the future.

Together with children from local fishing families, we took part in a beach clean-up, putting our learning into action. Afterwards, there was plenty of time for football, making new friends, and enjoying the waves in the ocean. In the evening, exciting pickleball matches helped strengthen teamwork and cooperation. On the second day, we visited the local school and gained valuable insights into the daily lives of the children there. Afterwards, we hiked to a nearby river, collecting litter along the way. The cool water provided a welcome refreshment before an action-packed afternoon of banana boat rides, surfing, and other water activities. For many students, it was their first time surfing, giving them the opportunity to show courage, perseverance, and self-confidence.

The only thunderstorm of the trip turned into a cozy movie night, where the students watched Pünktchen und Anton. Early the next morning, we began our journey back to Manila.

This trip was much more than just an excursion. It taught the students the importance of environmental responsibility, teamwork, and independence. As true Ocean Defenders for a Better Future, they returned home with unforgettable memories and the understanding that even small actions can help create a better future.
