Community Service

Social engagement is part of GESM's mission and school program. Involvement in such projects teach our students social competence and tolerance, as well as the practical ability to plan and carry out tasks thoughtfully. Furthermore, getting involved with organizations that work intimately with people around the country helps our students learn and understand the local culture better.

We see ourselves therefore not primarily as a charitable helper, but as a partner, mutually learning within the realities of Philippine life.

Notable Projects

GESM students are involved in social engagement projects early and often, from Kindergarten to Grade 12. Projects could come in the form of simple donation drives and events on campus, or as large-scale long-term programs involving logistical operations in multiple regions and international coordination. Notable projects over the years include:

  • Shoebox Project - annual children-to-children donation of toys, clothing every Christmas season

  • "Alles neu macht Mai" - Annual donation drive of clothing and other material via the Virlanie Foundation

  • Donation of school materials, audiovisual and IT equipment to fellow public schools conducting distance learning during the COVID-19 pandemic in Parañaque City

  • "Adopt a Roof Program" - Housing relief operation for victims of Typhoon Haiyan ("Yolanda") in 2013

  • Blitz relief operation for flood victims of Typhoon Ketsana ("Ondoy") within Metro Manila in 2009 -- Awarded for its lightning fast and efficient response by the Network of German Chambers of Commerce (AHK)
