On October 2, the German European School Manila (GESM) celebrated Tag der Deutschen Einheit (Day of German Unity), one day before the official holiday on October 3. This year marked 35 years since East and West Germany were reunited.
The celebration brought the whole school together through performances, games, and creative activities that highlighted Germany’s history and culture.
Students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 took part throughout the day. In the auditorium, there were musical and theatrical performances retelling the story of the Berlin Wall. A highlight for many was the stop-motion film created by Grade 4D, which used Legos, toys, and handmade props to tell the story of the BRD and DDR. The project combined creativity, collaboration, and technology.
Meanwhile, Grades 8D and 9D designed a German Unity Day-themed escape room, where their fellow students solved puzzles related to history and teamwork. In the afternoon, Primary School students played traditional German outdoor games on the field, showing that learning history can be both meaningful and fun.
It was a day of reflection, creativity, and connection, true to the spirit of Einheit, or unity.
At the German European School Manila (GESM), we celebrate learning in every form: through creativity, history, and community. Visit us and see learning in action: www.gesm.org/book-a-tour
