Collaboration at its finest! G3-G5 Donation Drive

Contrary to popular belief, lunch hour is rarely a time that teachers are out of reach. It often becomes a hub for student engagement. One inspiring example of this balance in action happened recently during my lunch hour.

Three enthusiastic Grade 3 students, Sabina, Lea, and Sofia, visited my office to pitch an idea for a local community outreach initiative. Their passion and organization skills were truly inspiring, and this simple idea soon evolved into a larger collaboration with Grade 5’s PYP Exhibition group, which is inquiring into the impact of poverty on children.

With the upcoming Grade 5 trip to a coastal community up north, the students decided to extend their outreach efforts to benefit the children of local fishermen. A non-profit organization supporting these children shared that while they love sports, they often lack the proper sporting clothes, shoes, and gear. Understanding that these families prioritize essential needs such as food over sports equipment, our students took action. Together, they initiated a donation drive within the school community to provide these children with the necessary gear, ensuring they, too, could experience the joy of play.

In the process, they get to hone their communication skills as they visit Secondary and Primary classes to share seek their support and organization skills as they plan the step-by-step process to kickstart this initiative.

Well done to all the students involved! This is education at its finest—where learning meets action, and knowledge transforms into meaningful change.

We would like to thank everyone who donated their sport clothes and food items. It's still not too late! You can still send in your donations today, to make it to the March 18 delivery.
