Drama Day at GESM

On May 14, the German European School Manila (GESM) was filled with theatrical energy as students from Grades 6E, 7E, and 8E took the stage for Drama Day. Organized by the English Language & Literature teachers Mr. Chester and Ms. Malina, this event showcased a variety of short plays—some reenactments by Grade 6E and original scripts written and performed by students from Grades 7E and 8E.

The performances spanned a wide range of genres, from courtroom drama and crime thrillers to heartfelt coming-of-age stories. Each play reflected the students’ creativity and dedication, with impressive acting, expressive public speaking, and authentic costumes that brought their characters to life.

While Drama Day was part of their English class, students were not graded specifically for their acting skills. Instead, their public speaking, script contributions, and overall engagement were key aspects of their assessment. The event not only showcased their storytelling abilities but also helped them build confidence in performing before an audience.

There is talk of re-staging some of the best plays soon—this time with parents in the audience!
