On 20 October 2026, German European School Manila (GESM) welcomed parents and students to an information evening on vocational training and career opportunities in Germany. The session was held as part of the school's Germany in Focus event series, which aims to provide families with a better understanding of the educational and professional pathways available in Germany.

The evening featured Kirsten Herr and Rene Evering, founders of Mariposa ET, who shared their knowledge and experience in guiding students interested in pursuing further education, vocational training or professional careers in Germany.

Throughout the session, the speakers introduced the different pathways available to students after graduation, including vocational training (Ausbildung), dual study programmes (Duales Studium) and internships (Praktikum). They explained how these options differ from traditional university studies and how students can combine academic learning with practical experience in a professional environment.

An important part of the discussion focused on the process of preparing to study or work in Germany. The speakers addressed what students and families should consider when exploring opportunities abroad, from researching suitable programmes and understanding admission requirements to preparing applications, meeting language requirements and planning for life in Germany.

The session also gave parents a clearer understanding of how Germany's vocational education system works and why it may be an alternative for students who prefer a more practical approach to learning. Through vocational training and dual study programmes, students can gain professional experience while developing the qualifications needed for their chosen careers.

With the support and guidance of Mariposa ET, families were introduced to the steps involved in planning their children's educational and professional futures in Germany. The evening provided an opportunity to ask questions, explore different possibilities and better understand the preparation required for studying or working abroad.

Through information evenings such as this, GESM continues to help students and families explore opportunities beyond secondary education, whether through university studies, vocational qualifications or other professional pathways in Germany.
