On Saturday February 28th, GESM’s Basketball team continued their Manila International School Athletics Association (MISAA) season campaign with another game at the Beacon School. The strong and deep opponent this time was Chinese International School Manila.  Battling through nearly four quarters with  nip and tuck close scoring, the boys held the lead for much of the game before falling behind by a point in the final minute. Not to be deterred, they mustered a final defensive stand that enabled Mateo Artadi to make a crucial steal and go-ahead basket with 24 seconds left.  A defensive effort saw the boys  secure a thrilling but narrow two-point win by a final score  of 41-39.

Once again they were sizable underdogs but managed to stay together as a team and represent GESM well. Leding the way for all scorers was Mateo A. with a solid 30-point effort.

Proudly representing GESM  were: Santi A. (7E), Bogdan L. (8E), Ryou O. (9E), San Y. (9E), Pablo J. (9E), Iago A. (9E), Brandon F. (9E), Sebastian L. (9E), Deacon B. (9E), Mohammed S. (9E), Mateo A. (11) as well as Nelson Celis III (12).

With the win, the boys have secured a playoff spot but still have two more regular season games ahead.

First, we face off against NAIS on Saturday March 14th at 2:15 PM. A game against powerful Everest is slated for April 11th to determine their final seeding for the division 1 semi-finals slated for Saturday April 18th.  Coach Troyer wishes to thank Sports Coordinator Florian Simmelbuer for his help at the

game as well as Coach Stephany for assisting in prepping the team.  In the end, we are so appreciative and grateful of the support and backing of our amazing GESM  parents, staff and students that have been there to cheer on our team win or lose!
