Grade 11's Workshop on Vocational Training with Mariposa ET

German European School Manila (GESM) organised a morning workshop for students in Grades 10 and 11, introducing them to the different educational and career opportunities available in Germany after graduation.
The workshop was led by Kirsten Herr, cofounder of Mariposa ET, who shared her experience in helping students explore opportunities to study, train and pursue professional careers abroad.
During the session, students learned about the different pathways available in Germany, including university studies, vocational training (Ausbildung), dual study programmes (Duales Studium) and internships (Praktikum). Kirsten explained how these options work, how they differ from one another and what students should consider when choosing a pathway that suits their interests, abilities and future career goals.
The workshop also introduced students to the practical steps involved in preparing for education or training abroad. Topics included researching suitable programmes, understanding admission requirements, developing German language skills and preparing for the application process.
For students in Grades 10 and 11, the session provided an opportunity to begin thinking about their plans beyond secondary school. Rather than focusing solely on university education, the workshop introduced alternative pathways that combine academic learning with practical experience, allowing students to consider a wider range of possibilities for their future.
Students also had the opportunity to ask questions and gain a clearer understanding of what studying, training or working in Germany might involve. The discussion encouraged them to reflect on their interests and consider the steps they could take while still in school to prepare for their next stage of education.
Through workshops such as this, GESM aims to help students make informed decisions about their education and future careers by introducing them to different opportunities and encouraging them to explore their options before graduation.
