On March 31, the Grade 2 students at GESM hosted the fourth PYP Assembly, centered this year on the theme of natural disasters and preparedness. Over the past few weeks, the students have been deeply immersed in their Unit of Inquiry, exploring how communities respond to and prepare for hazards like earthquakes, volcanoes, and floods.
A highlight of their learning was a visit to PHIVOLCS, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, where they discovered how scientists monitor seismic activity and volcanic eruptions. During the assembly, the students shared their key reflections on safety measures, such as creating a go-bag, assembling a medical kit, and understanding the essentials of first aid.
The students also brought their learning to life with a special performance: they composed the lyrics of an original song about life skills and preparedness, which captivated the audience. This exhibition was more than just a showcase; it was a powerful reminder of how young learners can make a difference by understanding risks and taking action. We are incredibly proud of their curiosity, teamwork, and creativity, and we thank all who attended this inspiring event.
