Grade 3 PYP Assembly: Celebrating Learning, Growth, and Achievement

On October 1 2026 our Grade 3 students recently took part in their Primary Years Programme (PYP) Assembly, an opportunity to share their learning experiences, reflect on their progress, and celebrate their achievements throughout the school term.

The Primary Years Programme, developed by the International Baccalaureate (IB), is designed for children aged 3 to 12 and encourages learning through curiosity, exploration, and inquiry. Rather than focusing solely on individual subjects, the programme helps students make connections between different areas of learning and understand how their knowledge relates to the world around them.

An important part of the PYP is the Units of Inquiry (UOI), which allow students to explore broader themes through different subjects, discussions, and practical activities. These units encourage children to ask questions, investigate ideas, think critically, and develop a deeper understanding of the topics they study.

During the assembly, our Grade 3 students had the opportunity to share what they had learned through their Units of Inquiry, highlighting their discoveries and the skills they had developed along the way. The assembly also provided an occasion to recognise individual achievements through the presentation of awards based on the IB Learner Profile.

The IB Learner Profile encourages students to develop qualities that go beyond academic achievement, including being Inquirers, Communicators, Thinkers, Reflective, and Caring. These attributes recognise how students approach learning, interact with others, ask questions, express their ideas, and reflect on their own progress. By celebrating these qualities, the school encourages students to recognise that learning is not only about what they know, but also about how they grow as individuals.

Beyond sharing their academic progress and receiving recognition, the assembly encouraged students to develop confidence, communication skills, and a sense of responsibility for their own learning. It also provided an opportunity for the wider school community to appreciate their efforts and accomplishments.

The Grade 3 PYP Assembly was a celebration of both learning and personal growth, recognising the curiosity, creativity, and developing independence of our students as they continue their educational journey at GESM.
