The IB1 Class recently participated in the Collaborative Science Project (CSP)—a core component of the IB Diploma Programme that encourages students to work together in interdisciplinary teams. The aim of CSP is to allow students to apply scientific thinking and methods to a real-world issue while developing collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills.

On May 8th, the students, accompanied by science teachers Mr. Michael Cumar, Dr. Christoph Grandt, and Mr. Fatih Metin, traveled to Manila Bay to carry out a field investigation focused on microplastics.

With the help of our delightful guest Daniel Scheler from "one earth - one ocean" a German NGO oeoo in the Philippines - One Earth - One Ocean e. V. - OEOO, the students were able to get hands on experience and learn more about their project.

The students were divided into three groups, each with a different scientific objective related to microplastics. Throughout the day, they conducted water testing, collected both micro- and macroplastic samples, and examined materials under a microscope to observe plastic particles and other relevant findings.

The project allowed students to experience the scientific process in a practical setting, learning how to gather data, analyze it critically, and collaborate effectively as a team. It also helped them understand the complexity of real-world scientific challenges and the importance of interdisciplinary work.

Students are now in the final stage of the project, working on their reflective presentations, where they will interpret their data, share insights from the fieldwork, and evaluate their collaborative efforts.
