by Volker Schlieske
After many months of intensive work, the fourth edition of GIB GLOBAL NEWS on the theme "World in Transition" is finally completed – and the result is truly impressive! The magazine, which in September consisted of blank pages and rough ideas, was brought to life thanks to our international GIB GLOBAL NEWS community. Due to different time zones, it sometimes proved challenging for editorial members to participate in regular worldwide editorial meetings and podcast recordings. In Taiwan, Vietnam, and the Philippines, meetings often lasted well into the night, while editorial members from South and Latin America on the other side of the world had to wake up early to join. Respect!
Under the guidance of media educator Mr. Maximillian Hutter from Bonn and Mr. Volker Schlieske, the coordinator for German as a Foreign Language (DaF) at DESM, this edition was jointly created by almost 70 students accompanied by their teachers from 12 countries.
For the first time, the structure of the magazine aligns with the global contexts of the IB. This means that the magazine's content can now more easily find its way back into the classroom. Interested teachers now have the opportunity to integrate, analyze, and perhaps even question the authors' perspectives in their lessons.
Our sincere thanks go to the editorial team of the German European School Manila, consisting of Michelle Leine, Carlos Galvez, Jasper Steinberg, Audrey van Veldhuizen, Simon Almeida Uy, and Jasmine Leicht. We would like to especially mention Jasmin Leicht, who also designed the cover of the magazine this year, and Alyana Liepach, who created the new logo for GIB GLOBAL NEWS. Your work contributes to making the world a little better, connecting people, and promoting understanding between them. You make a difference!
We wish everyone a Merry Christmas, a good start to the new year, and lots of enjoyment while reading!
