GESM Teachers' Council
GESM has a Teachers' Council, a distinctive characteristic of all German Schools abroad, and an important one.
Its main purpose is working together with school administration to resolve all issues as fast as possible, to avoid disappointment and misunderstandings. It coordinates and directs communication to the administration in weekly meetings, but stays also in direct contact always with the head of school.
Often school management informs the representatives first, gets their feedback and asks them to transmit the information to the staff.
Most surprising to most international teachers, teachers' reps can also be present in negotiations about contracts and disciplinary matters. And as some conflicts might arise also from the behavior of colleagues themselves, the council has proved to be a perfect means of mediation even between staff members.
